Fiber

Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that your body can’t digest, and therefore must expel. But that’s good news!

Fiber rocks! It helps fill us up so we eat less. It keeps our gastrointestinal tract regular and our stools airy and light. It helps us to stabilize our blood sugar, maintain constant energy levels, and prevent disease.

Fiber acts like a little internal janitor, wielding scrub brushes that clean and then carry off disease-promoting substances such as cholesterol, throwing the nasty stuff in its garbage bag and hauling it to the dump.

Fiber is found exclusively in plant-based foods. One reason why the Engine 2 Diet recommends that you eat whole fruits and vegetables instead of drinking fruit and vegetable juices is because they contain fiber.

An eight-ounce glass of orange juice, for example, contains zero fiber, 120 calories, and 23 grams of sugar (giving you a huge glucose spike immediately followed by a bigger insulin rush). And it does little to satiate your appetite. Two oranges, on the other hand, give you 7 grams of fiber, 124 calories, don’t cause the sugar and insulin spikes, and make you feel full. Ya!

Consuming a vast variety of fruits, vegetables, and legumes, as well as whole grain breads, cereals, and pastas, is the best way to reach your E2 Diet fiber goals. Most Americans consume between 10 and 15 grams of fiber per day. On the E2 Diet, we want you to get 40 to 50 grams.
